As many midstream investors are discovering, the basin-to-basin variability in unconventional resource plays is as much at ground level as below. San Antonio-based EnCap Flatrock Midstream is a private equity firm that invests exclusively in the midstream sector. With more than $1.2 billion in assets under management, the company has backed several entities operating in various unconventional plays across the country.

EnCap Flatrock’s managing partner, Bill Waldrip, says the infrastructure in each basin requires different types of investments to accommodate the higher flow volumes, pressures and liquids production as- sociated with shales and tight sands.
